Last weekend the Quartet recorded 12 pieces for a CD release. The session was fabulous, and I now have the privileged, enjoyable yet tricky job of listening to all the takes and distilling the music down to an album's length…
Some tunes will have to go, which can be a shame, but the aim, as always, is to produce the best album we can make right now. For any musician and band leader this is an amazing period combining excitement, introspection, delight and even fear (of picking the wrong stuff, when the right stuff lies unnoticed!)
