Jon Lloyd Quartet

"His tunes are steeped in the ECM aesthetic, and he and long-time collaborator John Law on piano make it sound like the only music you ever want to hear."

Jon Turney, UK Jazz News, live review at Swanage Festival, 2023

"An accomplished album characterised by emotion and beauty...offering inventive textures, dynamics shifts and a touch of magic."

All About Jazz, **** "Earth Songs" album review, 2025

Saxophonist and composer Jon Lloyd created this European Contemporary Jazz group in 2023, performing concerts in the UK and Europe and releasing the acclaimed album “Earth Songs” on Ubuntu Music in 2024. This album has since streamed 2.5 million worldwide, and has firmly established the quartet within the genre. Their music is typified by emotionally reflective moods and beautiful textures, with strong melodies, dynamic group interaction and fluent soloing. All compositions are written by Jon.

“The best of contemporary jazz – steeped in non-Western music, ECM melodic fusion and a hushed neo-classical grace."

The members of the quartet are superb. Virtuoso pianist John Law, performing in solo and trio ( with Asaf Sirkis, Yuri Goloubev) and fronting his groups Congregation and Re-Creations, has been a leading figure in UK jazz music for many years. Drummer Alex Goodyear is a young, dynamic drummer, currently playing with Yetii, Simon Spillett and Re-CreationsNick Pini is an in-demand bassist across jazz (Iain Ballamy), folk (Laura Marling) and rock (Mirador). Jon Lloyd came to prominence on the UK free music scene in the early 1990s, releasing albums on LEO, FMR and the Swiss label HatOlogy. In 1993 his quartet (Paul Rogers, Mark Sanders, John Law) completed a Contemporary Music Network tour supporting The Bill Frisell band.

The release of “Anima” sees the Jon Lloyd Quartet developing their distinctive sound, continuing to create beautiful, emotionally rich music and consolidating the reputation established with “Earth Songs”.

“The interplay between the quartet members is magical, instinctive… creating music of often startling beauty.
